Can You Pour Concrete in the Rain?

Rain and Fresh Concrete

Pouring concrete in the rain is generally not recommended, but the impact depends on when the rain starts relative to the pour.

The Dangers of Excess Water

If rain falls while the concrete is still wet and being finished, it can weaken the surface layer, leading to scaling, dusting, and a "chalky" finish once cured.

Protective Measures

  • Have Tarps Ready: Always have heavy-duty plastic sheeting on hand before you start.
  • Check the Base: Never pour onto muddy or waterlogged ground.
  • Timing: If rain starts after the concrete has hardened enough to walk on, it actually helps the curing process!
